2018/19 REPORT.

The 93rd JW HUNT CUP FINAL was held at the Molineux on Monday 13th May 2019.

SPORTING KHALSA beat HIGHGATE UNITED 4-1 in a fine game of attacking football on a beautiful evening.

The Referee for the final was Andy Ellis son of Wilf Ellis who refereed the JW Hunt Cup Final in 1983.They follow Bill Castle in 1961 and Steve Castle in 2008 as the only other father and son pair to Referee the JW Hunt Cup Final.

FINAL REPORT by Steve Gordos ( JW Hunt Cup Vice President.)

Sporting Khalsa won the JW Hunt Cup for the second time in four years thanks to an emphatic 4-1 win over Highgate United in the final at Molineux.

From the start Khalsa called the tune, prompted by man-of-the-match Liam Armstrong, yet the opening goal did not come until the 29th minute when the lively Mensah Kinch cut in from the right to drill home a low shot.

Striker Jay Holdcroft blazed over a good chance soon after half-time but quickly made amends when his low shot made it 2-0 on 49 minutes.

Holdcroft paved the way for the third goal three minutes later when keeper Brad Catlow blocked his shot only for Mykel Beckley to slot home the rebound.

Highgate’s chances of a recovery were hit when they were reduced to ten, referee Andy Ellis giving a straight red to McCauley Manning for his tackle on Carlo Franco.

Yet Highate got a lifeline seven minutes from time in this battle of Midland League premier sides when Lei Brown scored from the spot after being brought down by keeper Sam Arnold.

Trying to reduce the gap two minutes into time added on, Highgate sent Catlow up for a corner but the keeper was left stranded as the ball was cleared and could not get back to his goal before sub Alex Perry rolled the ball into an empty net.
